My Digital Painting Process
I have come to digital painting from a traditional fine art background, working for over 20 years in mediums such as oil paint on canvas and pastels.
A couple of years ago I started applying this knowledge and experience to digital painting.
Watch this short video to see my set up and how I create a digital painting, building an image up from scratch, in the same way I would if using oil paint or pastel.
Auto Union Case Study
This is a mini showcase of my painting of a Dinky Auto Union racing car. Here I am incorporating two angles of the same toy within the composition to evoke the full effect.
I am using a special software, created by artists, which replicates the textures and feel of traditional mediums exceptionally well. My medium of preference is oil paint on canvas, which is what I am using here.
Aston Martin Case Study
A little glimpse into a work in progress, this time of the Dinky Aston Martin. Here I am exploring how the famous yellow Dinky Toy box can be incorporated into the painting along with the iconic Aston Martin logo. Like before I am working with oil paints and brushes onto a textured canvas surface.
